Thanks, Laura, this really resonated with me. As a Buddhist might say, merely understanding the roots of our suffering, whatever it might be, can liberate us from it. Personally, I’m trying to do my best to take better notice of all the good things that haven’t changed, and are still happening right now. Regarding new assumptions, one assumption we could go with is that the media isn’t a perfect mirror for reality, and never has been. It takes time for the truth to emerge and for people to react to the truth.
I agree that taking notice of all the good things that haven't changed is so important right now! It's actually what I've been planning to write about for the next prune. Jessica Craven does a weekly good news round-up in her Substack (Chop Wood, Carry Water) that I find helpful some weeks, but mostly what I want to focus on is the good outside of politics. It's all too easy to narrow our gaze so tightly that no light gets in.
Thank you Laura! The shattering of assumptions can be traumatic and even if it is not more than someone can bear, it can still cause deep grief. We are not always attentive to grief showing up in our lives that isn't related to a death. And many are surprised that grief can show up as rage, disconnection, fatigue and all the other emotions and bodily feelings I hear so many of us expressing right now.
I really appreciate your posts. They help me gain perspective and actionable practices that are helping me through this wild and challenging time.
Dana, thanks so much for this. Grief has been on my mind a lot -- I have plans to write about it and will mention it in next Friday's post. And I'm looking forward to talking with you more about it -- I know you know so much as a grief partner and death doula -- and sharing our conversation here on the Prune! There is so much we are grieving right now.

You're welcome, Mark! I'm really glad it did.
